About this Course

Interested in the design and making of props for theatre?

Explore the world of miniature mechanics for props, puppets, tricks, effects and stage magic in this three-day course.

Sessions will include a mix of practical projects, demonstrations and interactive activities.

Whilst no experience is necessary, we’d encourage people to apply who have a keen interest in design and making of props for theatre.

The course is free to take part in.

Who is this workshop for?
The workshop is suitable for anyone aged between 16 and 19.
Whilst no experience is necessary, we’d encourage people to apply who have a keen interest in design and making of props for theatre.
This opportunity takes place at the National Theatre on the South Bank in London, and therefore we aim to offer and prioritise places to those based in London, or who can travel to London easily and safely throughout the programme.
We are furthering our commitment to diversity and access by concentrating recruitment in these areas that we recognise are currently underrepresented in the field of technical theatre:

Young people from the Global majority
Young people from working-class backgrounds
Young people who identify as D/deaf or disabled

The course is free, and you’ll be supported every step of the way:

We can provide captioning, easy-read materials, written instructions, visual aids, access support worker
Share with us what you need and we will do our best to help you take part; you can tell us what works best for you on the application form
You can also choose to answer application questions in video or audio if writing isn’t your thing.
Access support and travel bursaries are available to those in the Greater London area.
