Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Technician Demonstrator to join our team for 3 days per week, working on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. As an integral member of our Technical Services team, you will support students across a range of creative disciplines through expert technical guidance, practical demonstrations and workshop support. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic higher education environment where traditional craftsmanship meets cutting-edge digital manufacturing technologies.
You will provide specialist support in modelmaking, prototyping, fabrication and digital manufacturing, helping students develop projects from concept through to finished outcome. Using your expertise in workshop practices, materials, laser cutting, 3D printing and CAD software, particularly Rhino 3D, you will deliver inductions, demonstrations and workshops while promoting safe and sustainable working practices. You will also play a key role in maintaining specialist facilities and equipment, supporting exhibitions and collaborative projects, and helping students realise ambitious creative ideas.
The ideal candidate will have practical experience in modelmaking, fabrication or a related discipline, strong technical problem-solving skills and excellent communication abilities. Experience with digital fabrication technologies, workshop equipment and health and safety procedures is essential, while knowledge of Autodesk Fusion, mould-making, casting, finishing techniques or interactive modelmaking would be advantageous. Above all, you will be enthusiastic about sharing your knowledge, supporting student learning and contributing to an innovative and collaborative technical team.
Our benefits
In meeting your performance expectations, you’ll receive an annual salary increase in line with the grade of your role. An annual cost of living uplift will be applied, the timing and implementation of which are subject to the University’s decision. AUB provides generous holiday entitlement, and you will be enrolled in the Local Government Pension Scheme (professional services staff) or the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (academic staff) from day one of employment. Along with subsidised bus travel, cycle to work and annual savings schemes, our broad range of benefits can be explored on the AUB careers website https://aub.ac.uk/working-at-aub.
AUB has an agile working policy, and flexible working can be considered. If you require support with your application or have any questions about the role or recruitment process, please email recruitment@aub.ac.uk . If you are disabled, we are committed to supporting you with any reasonable adjustments you require, so please email recruitment@aub.ac.uk and we’ll be in touch.
