This wearable mascot/fursuit was adapted to a performer-friendly scale while maintaining the character's recognisable proportions and personality. The build includes a mascot head, hands, feet and tail, made mainly from plastazote foam with hand-sewn faux-fur, leather detailing and mixed-media components. The project involved a full design-to-fabrication workflow over approximately 15 weeks. I began by sculpting the head in clay to establish form and proportions before developing enlarged prototype patterns to refine fit, silhouette and wearability. Once finalised, the structure was re-patterned for fur application, with each fur section individually cut and hand stitched to create the tiger-stripe patterning. Additional components include hand-sculpted vac-formed eyes, hand painted detailing, 3D printed teeth and repurposed fibre optic cable whiskers. This was created using techniques and processes commonly used within mascot production studios such as Rainbow Productions.

Puppeteer and puppet

This muppet-style hand puppet is based on the Norse god Loki, drawing from historical interpretations and mythological research rather than contemporary media depictions. Designed for use in stage and educational children's content, the puppet balances expressive movement with durable soft props techniques. I started with multiple prototypes and tests for usability and head movement, before all pieces where patterned and cut from upholstery foam, dyed Muppet fleece and repurposed children's clothing. A key feature of the build is the hand-punched hair, created from unwound knitting wool adding to texture and movement. The internal mouth mech required a lot of testing to ensure smooth movement for performance during puppeteering. Completed over approximately seven weeks, the project demonstrates skills in pattern making, prototyping, performance focused construction and research led character design for theatre and educational media.

This display model recreates Bruce from Finding Nemo as a hand sculpted maquette, produced to demonstrate detailed creature sculpting, mould making and finishing techniques. At 1:30 scale, the project focuses on accurately capturing form, texture and expression within a compact presentation model. The shark was first sculpted in plastaline before being moulded in silicone with a three-part fiberglass jacket to allow for clean casting and demoulding. The final piece was cast in Fast Cast resin and hand painted to achieve layered surface detail and tonal variation inspired by the original character design. The base was built from wood with sculpted environmental elements including rocks, coral and seabed texture created from extruded polystyrene and Milliput. Additional shells were sourced from my hometown beach to add natural variation to the final composition.
