Stop Motion - ONE

INDUSTRY-LED ONLINE STOP MOTION TRAINING
Stop Motion 1 is a 12 week course designed to give you strong foundations in character animation. It is taught by a team of experienced tutors and mentors and is aimed at industry professionals, university students and self-taught animators who want to take their skills to the next level.


Each week begins with a live lecture from course leader Stuart Messinger. This is your chance to ask questions, share ideas and explore animation techniques. You will then move into exclusive masterclasses, filmed especially for this course, and complete weekly tasks that put theory into practice. Lessons can be rewatched at any time and even paused or stepped through frame by frame.

Once you have finished your tasks you upload them to our vibrant and supportive private online community, where your mentor will review your work ready for your weekly 1-2-1 feedback meeting.


From weeks eight to twelve you will concentrate on creating your own final animated short with the full support of your tutor and peers. The active community hub is available throughout the course so you can connect with fellow animators, share ideas and get help when you need it. The weekly activities usually take between five and ten hours to complete. Your final project can take as much time as you choose to dedicate.


In week twelve the course concludes with a live streamed graduation event. Friends and family are warmly encouraged to join and celebrate your achievements while you premiere your final film or showreel.


The journey continues in the summer when all graduates of Stop Motion 1 are invited to Aardman’s Gas Ferry Road studios for our alumni celebration. You will screen your work in the Aardman cinema and enjoy a party with fellow animators and the Academy team.
