About this Course
Building with Geometry, Pattern & Structure
Presented by The Creative Dimension Trust
Join us for a free hands-on workshop exploring the fascinating world of 3D geometry, design, and natural materials.
Using paper, bamboo, and other natural materials, participants will create an exciting range of models β from small, intricate pieces to take home to large-scale communal sculptures reaching up to five metres high. Youβll learn how to:
Fold and construct complex geometric patterns inspired by Islamic art and world architecture
Build Platonic Solids and discover the natural proportions, such as the Golden Section, that underpin sacred architecture
Experiment with tensile and woven structures, exploring how patterns evolve into three-dimensional forms
Collaborate on larger geodesic and muqarnas-inspired domes, blending art, geometry, and design
This workshop is perfect for students interested in design, architecture, and creative making, but all are welcome β no prior experience is required, just curiosity and enthusiasm for hands-on creation.
As well as developing practical and creative skills, participants will enjoy a collaborative and community-building experience, working together to design and construct shared projects while developing confidence and teamwork.
This is a rare opportunity that takes place only once a year, offering young people the chance to learn in a professional artistβs studio and explore the connections between art, mathematics, and architecture in a dynamic, supportive environment.
All materials are provided.
The workshop will take place in artist Adam Williamsonβs East London studio, where participants can experience working in a professional creative space and be guided by one of the UKβs leading artists in geometric and architectural design.
Meet the Tutor
This workshop will be run by highly experienced Creative Dimension Trust tutor Adam Williamson. Adam is a skilled calligrapher, geometer and stone/wood carver. He is drawn to particular shapes and patterns that can tessellate into perfectly balanced structures. His work embodies universal principles found in nature through hands-on craftsmanship.
Timings
Timings to be confirmed.
