About this Event
Overlap is a fun quarterly show & tell night for animators and animation lovers to show work, share ideas and hang out.
We'll be at Secret Space (this year's Flatpack Festival hub) with special guest Joseph Wallace, animators will be show&telling their films, and as ever, Louis Hudson will bring costumed chaos as host.
Joseph Wallace is a stop-motion director, writer and producer whose work combines his background in theatre with love of Eastern European animation. The result is a hand-crafted yet cinematic style that bares a sensitive spirit. His work has won awards, received Vimeo Staff Picks and screened at festivals around the world.
Joseph’s music video for Sparks led to him create sequences for Edgar Wright’s documentary feature The Sparks Brothers which premiered at Sundance. Film critic, Mark Kermode, described the segments as, "Dark wonders".
Joseph’s film, Salvation Has No Name, is his most ambitious project to date. The film explores the themes of xenophobia and the refugee crisis using a troupe of unreliable narrators. After a 6 year battle to complete the film, it received the Jury Special Mention at Cannes and was long-listed for a BIFA and BAFTA. Unfortunately the themes have become ever increasingly relevant. More the reason to watch it.
You may have also seen Joseph’s wonderfully serene work for BBC’s Sleeping Forecast featuring Jarvis Cocker. The production employed some of the industry's best talents and was featured across the BBC.
Jon Frickey will also be joining us from Germany. His new film, Ploo, is screening at 5:30pm directly before Overlap. Jon has won a ton of Oscar qualifying festival awards.
Inspired? Submit animation from as short as 1 sec to: overlapsocial.com/submit
Deadline for submission is Wednesday 6th May.
The optional prompt is ‘FIRE', but you can make whatever you want. I'm sure it'll be fire (I just did a little sick in my old mouth. Sorry)
Pre-booked tickets are £10. Tickets on the door will be £12.
