Job Description
We currently have a vacancy for a Props Maker to join our Props department for the remainder of our 2026 Season.
Under the direction of the Head of Department, Props Supervisor & the Workshop Supervisor, you will be part of a team of creative craftspeople in the Glyndebourne production workshops. You will produce stage props, scenic elements and other company projects, to an exceptionally high standard.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Required to work with a wide range of key materials including but not limited to; timbers, metals, , paints, EPS, plastics, resins and multiple types of casting materials.
Required to work with fabrics, to be able to upholster and create soft props.
Required to interpret scale drawings, models and other reference material.
Required understanding and application of health and safety practices including C.D.M., C.O.S.H.H.
Required to contribute to the updating of production and department archive material.
Required to contribute to the up-keep & organisation of the department’s stores.
Essential Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
To be an imaginative individual able to work as a part of a cohesive creative team of makers, bringing support to others and sharing knowledge.
Significant experience in a theatre props workshop or similar.
Theatrical Art & Design course to Degree level or other Arts related degree qualifications.
Good technical knowledge of prop making materials and techniques.
Functional knowledge of stage scenery and stage machinery.
Knowledge of the creative production process, design styles and history.
Good computer skills in a range of software, including Microsoft Office, Google and Adobe.
Functional knowledge of image manipulation software and current printing techniques.
Hours of Work
The contractual hours of work are 39 per week, worked over 5 days.
Rates of Pay and Benefits
This is an hourly paid position and the current rate is £14.75 per hour / £575.25 per week.
Overtime rates will apply for any shift longer than 8 hours, a 6th day & Sunday working.
Over half a day’s paid holiday for each week worked (6.8 weeks holiday per annum pro rata inclusive of bank holidays).
