Job Description
Woods Bagot is a global architecture firm with studios in Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, North America, London and Dubai, as part of the 7C Total Place Design Network: A wholly owned network of leading place brands including Woods Bagot, ERA-co, Impact Futures, and Customs Bureau.
We are looking for a Junior Model Maker/craftsperson to join our in-house model shop, working with the Model Shop Manager on a three-month contract, with the potential to transition into a permanent role.
About the Role
As the Junior Model Maker, you will help create a variety of physical models. Working from conceptual sketches you will produce high-quality presentation models, using a mix of digital and hands-on techniques in collaboration with our architectural teams, while ensuring the workshop remains organised and operational.
You will work on a variety of projects spanning all scales, from one-to-one mockups to sketch models and competition models. Our projects include office buildings, hotels, residential, retail, private clients, and masterplans across Europe and the Middle East.
Your Responsibilities
Working alongside Model Shop Manager to create high quality models using a variety of techniques.
Using CAD to produce models for 3D printing and laser cutting.
Working within set timeframes to meet delivery deadlines.
Ensuring the workshop and workspaces are kept clean, safe, and well maintained.
Working in collaboration with architectural team.
Essential skills
Ability to understand and interpret architectural drawings, sketches and written information as part of the making process.
A solid working knowledge of AutoCAD.
Ability to use traditional workshop machinery and hand tools including band saw and disc sander.
Strong craftsmanship skills, excellent hand-eye coordination and the ability to work with fine detail.
Extensive experience in making models.
Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage time and workload independently and efficiently.
Desirable skills
Familiarity with Rhino and other comparable software for preparing drawings for model production.
Experience operating rapid prototyping equipment, including laser cutters and 3D printers, along with the relevant software.
Experience of spray painting and other finishing techniques.
Knowledge of a variety of making methods, including mould-making and plaster casting.
Trained and qualified in the field of modelmaking.
