Job Description
Based in London, MDM are experienced in all aspects of art manufacture, scenic construction, model making and prop-making.
We are currently hiring for the position of ‘CNC Router & Laser Cutter Technician’. Candidates should have a keen interest in CNC and experience would be necessary.
The successful candidate will be part of a small team, and they be required to communicate across the whole workshop, from the drafting team to project managers and fabricators.
Knowledge of CAD/CAM software such as:
-Vcarve
-RhinoCam
-Rhino3d
-Powermill
-Geomagic
-Fusion
Manual handling and storing materials are also included in the role.
The Job
• Prepare and operate CNC machines to cut a variety of materials including MDF, plywood, timber, plastics, composites, non-ferrous metals and foam
• Understand specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading drawings and working with the designers and makers to determine the best practice for each job
• Load and set up materials onto the machines and manage use of waste and offcuts
• Program and set up machines to complete full cycles with multiple tool changes – we have auto tool changing on our CNC router machines
• Inspect finished products and compare them with requirements
• Check, clean and maintain machinery to ensure functionality and to troubleshoot any issues or faults that occur
• Test different materials, tools and techniques to determine best practice and set standards of operation for all machines
• Working in a dynamic manufacturing environment you will be adaptable to the demands of the business
• Demonstrate a commitment to Health and Safety in the workplace
Requirements
• Computer savvy with an understanding of computer programming and CAD/CAM
• Mechanical aptitude and good mathematical skills
• A keen eye for detail and results-driven approach
• A keen interest in Art and design
• The physical fitness to cope with the labour demands of the job
• The ability to work closely with a large production team
