Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Workshops Technician to join the B.15 Modelmaking workshop team. As part of the broader technical operations team at the University of Manchester, we are committed to delivering sector-leading technical services across the School of Environment, Education and Development (SEED) and the wider Faculty of Humanities. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a creative, collaborative environment by providing high-quality technical support for teaching, research and professional services. Based in Manchester, you will play an important role in enabling staff and students to realise ambitious design and research projects while maintaining the highest standards of customer service and technical excellence.

The successful candidate will support the delivery of modelmaking activities within the B.15 workshops supporting Manchester School of Architecture students. This entails assisting with three-dimensional construction projects using a wide range of materials and processes, including card and paper, timber, plastics, additive manufacturing, and mould-making and casting techniques. You will provide practical guidance, demonstrate workshop equipment and processes, and help ensure that all activities are carried out safely and effectively. The role requires a flexible, solutions-focused approach, a strong commitment to health and safety, and a genuine enthusiasm for helping students achieve their creative and academic goals.

Based within the B.15 Architecture workshop facilities, you will work closely with the existing technical team to enhance the workshop's technical support provision and contribute to the continuous development of an innovative and welcoming workshop environment.
